What I Made Today :: Creative Business Card Ideas

Your business card is your calling card: literally and metaphorically.  When you hand one over, it is the first glimpse as to what people are dealing with for the future.  Not to put too much pressure on a card but it makes a statement.  From the card stock to the font to the layout, it says something: Are you on top of things?  Are you creative?  Are you chintzy?

{i love this idea for a film crew card}

{memorable yet screams personality}

First, it is important to have a card.  I don’t care what level you are in your career.  Get some cards made.  Even if it is just 50.  There will be that time when you want to give someone your information and you look like an unprepared, unprofessional prick.  Which leads me to my second tip: keep a few cards on you.  Makes sense, right?  You’d be surprised how often people are found with their pants down.

When I was designing my cards, I kept thinking: what’s relatively the size of a business card for a cool design on the back?  Enter photo strip…I collect them and it seemed like a cute way to be able to get my face on my card without putting a standard, totally lame headshot on my card that screams: I am an actor, look at me!

I did a fair amount of research in regards to paper and prices.

I love good paper and I love a good deal.

After hours of staring and clicking, I fell in love with moo.com.  Their site is impressive and they make every type of product you will ever need for your business.

{my design}

{i wanted it to complement, not mirror, my website}

{i always write info on the cards i receive about where i met someone, here the work is done for you}

{plus, what a great talking point during the conversation :: just fill in the blank!}

{the front and back}

{all 4 designs lined up next to each other}

{4 different cards with 4 different pictures}

{piecing all the cards together to form the original photo strip}

Since moo.com has such great paper, the card actually looks like a real photo strip versus a scanned in image.

What does your card say about you?

What I Made Today :: Homecoming the Movie :: Behind the Scenes

Last year, I took a vacation to Florida and visited a dear friend of mine, Brea Grant, on the set of Homecoming. An indie film in which Estelle {Brea} takes military leave in her hometown of Celebration, Florida. The story unfolds as her relationship with her best friends {Tom Fox Davies and Sean Hackett} and her mom {Colleen Camp} unveil fears and truth.

It was a project that is very near and dear to her heart and, furthermore, she rocked the scene as a leading lady.

This Monday, the 25th, her film is being screened here in Los Angeles at the Downtown Independent.  They will be hosting a Q & A with the cast and crew afterwards and I believe Brea will be introducing the movie.

{a little behind the scenes magic that i shot and edited as brea grant takes me on a tour of the set of the feature film, homecoming}

I had a sensational time in Florida seeing Brea in her element, doing her thing, and I can’t wait to see how the final project is going to turn out {it did win best feature at the Kansas City Film Fest}! Have I mentioned how I have the raddest, more creative group of friends? Blissful appreciation.

Hell to the Homecoming yeah…
