What I Wore Today :: Date Night

What I Wore Today :: Date Night

On date nights, I try my best to incorporate my style rules into my outfit choice for the evening.

First rule of Date Night:  Look hot.  Notice I said hot.  Not trashy.  Hot.

Date Night isn’t the time for cutesy or frilly.

Save that for Sunday brunch with the girls.

What I Wore Today :: Running Errands

What I Wore Today :: Running Errands

After watching Breathless {1960} late last night, I woke up inspired by stripes, a need-to-commandeer staple in every gal’s closet.  The pictures demonstrate how much stripes jump off the page.  Furthermore, while high-waisted shorts get a bad rap as being “mom shorts,” they make my waist skinnier and I love the overall look.

Stripes are the quickest way to look lively and fun; the throwback component is a plus.

What I Wore Today :: Saturday Brunch

What I Wore Today :: Saturday Brunch

Throw on a little bit of red lipstick, a vintage inspired poncho, and a pair of cutoff jean shorts and out the door I run to meet up with friends for a late brunch at my favorite local spot, The Park.

My favorite thing about this outfit: mix and match. Cas meets fancy.

What I Wore Today :: Creative Interview Attire

What I Wore Today :: Creative Interview Attire

Many of my friends are in creative fields.  Everything from producing films to marketing to fashion.  In general, Los Angeles is a fairly laid back environment, even when it comes to approach and attire.  I always error on the side of dressing up.

One, would anyone really fault you for looking dapper?  Two, why not being a bit of class to any situation?  I am a fan of both.

{i go for simple but fashionable :: the best wardrobe is one you don’t notice for an interview}

{let you shine}

On a creative interview, one can get away with interesting textures and fabrics as well as with shorter skirts {not too short, let’s not go crazy with club wear length}.  Also, try mixing in just one “corporate” item if you still aren’t quite sure if it is too fun and funky.

Things that rock about a creative environment:

{being able to wear fun, costume jewelry}

{wearing patterns :: leopard, stripes, the combination of the two}

{killer shoes}

I am assuming if you are going in for a creative field job, you are a creative minded lady…so tap into the path less traveled and wear something that is uniquely you.

What I Wore Today :: How to Wear a Hat :: A Series

What I Wore Today :: How to Wear a Hat :: A Series

I have lived all over the country.  Los Angeles.  Alaska.  South Beach.  New York.  Austin.  For some strange reason, Angelenos pull off hats better than anyone that I have seen out there.  There is a weird psyche behind wearing a hat.  They are a hard accessory to pull off, but when you see it, you know when it works and when it doesn’t.

Since I can remember, I have worn and adored hats.  I am a hat girl.  The key to pulling it off is thinking that one can.  That’s where it starts.  Sounds pretty lame, right?  But watch the folks who wear one and see if you are or aren’t quite feeling it.  If you aren’t feeling it, most of the time it is because they aren’t quite feeling it; fidgeting with an equivocal stance.

There is a quote in You’ve Got Mail that has always stuck me:

“Once I read a story about a butterfly in the subway, and today, I saw one. It got on at 42nd, and off at 59th, where, I assume it was going to Bloomingdales to buy a hat that will turn out to be a mistake – as almost all hats are.”

And I can definitely identify with that sentiment.  There was a period there where I collected unworn hats, almost as if they were bookends more than they were accessories.

Even though I loved them, I didn’t quite know how to work it into my every day wardrobe.  With time, I tried on a lot of different hats {pun intended} and landed on a few great selections.

Which brings me to the series on how to wear hats.  The first is one of the hardest: the floppy hat of the 70s.

It may look amazing on J. Lo on the red carpet or in a photo shoot but how in God’s name is a real person supposed to wear this lovely accoutrement?

{with a statement hat such as this, go neutral with your clothes :: focus on one or the other}

{with that being said :: do a neutral face too :: bronze and nudes}

{when going 70s, make sure it is a hint of 70s, not costumy, kitschy 70s}

{give your hair some texture, flat hair doesn’t balance well with a big hat}

Most importantly, have fun and be confident!  I tip my hat off to you…

What I Wore Today :: Lunch Date

What I Wore Today :: Lunch Date

Call me, let’s do lunch!” is a popular phrase that friends or colleagues used to say to each other.  Now dudes are texting that as a means to a “date.”  So, not only is this phrase getting texted to you, lunch is the new dinner…we will address that in a later post, for now, let’s talk clothes.

What to wear, what to wear.  Every woman, and I mean every woman, {including Kate Moss or Oprah} has stood in front of their closet and uttered the words: I have nothing to wear.

Keep it hot.  Keep it simple.  Keep it fun.

You will have him eating lunch out of your hand in no time…

What I Wore Today :: From Day to Night

What I Wore Today :: From Day to Night

When out shopping with the girls, I like to wear something I can easily slip on and off {for quick try-ons}, something that is easy to layer {this dress looks magical when it is layered}, and something that is long sleeve {my arms are out of shape right now so long sleeves are my best friends for the time being}.

I am a dress gal, 99% of the time I am wearing one.  Perhaps it is the eternal desire to be a princess or the fact that they are crazy comfortable {jeans=cutting into my eating when cutting into my stomach}, they are the equivalent to elasty pants IMHO.

My favorite thing about this outfit is the ease of going from day to night.

Sometimes it isn’t possible to go home and change {or, let’s face it, sometimes when we get home we put on our pajama pants and we aren’t getting out of them} so it makes sense to plan for all night fun.

Throw on a bolder lipstick and your favorite pair of heels and, like the Fairy Godmother came to visit you, you are transformed and ready for the ball.

Only you can stay out longer than midnight.

What I Wore Today :: Music Festival

What I Wore Today :: Music Festival

Being that I am in the desert and minutes from where Coachella takes place every year, I decided to do a post about music festival couture {afterall, Lollapalooza and ACL are right around the corner}.

The best thing about the attire is that you get to channel your best Woodstock hippie and put a modern twist on it.

{go for flowy :: it is better in the heat and allows your body to breathe}

{belting a dress gives you the option of length :: short or super short}

{plus, when the sun goes down and you need to bust out your jacket, you have the option to belt it}

What I Wore Today :: Rock Concert

What I Wore Today :: Rock Concert

I love to dress up.  I do.  I would wear an evening gown to do the dishes if I wasn’t worried about getting food on it.  Nothing cheers me up faster than a lovely diaphanous, red carpet worthy gown.  So, why would the Prince concert be any different?  He, of all people, would appreciate the fanciful gesture.  {I did, ultimately, wear a purple bracelet in honor of him.}

I bought this dress for $7 at Neiman Marcus Last Call.  It was 6 sizes too big, but after some serious restructuring {easy restructuring, but restructuring nonetheless}, I made this dress my own.

I was shooting for rocker chic.  Bulls-eye.
